Ski Trip: Winter in Aspen

Aspen, Colorado is one of the greatest ski destinations in the world. There you will find a lot of winter activities in the surrounding mountains, filled with nice restaurants, hotels and boutiques.

Aspen offers four mountains for skiing: Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands, making it a perfect winter getaway for all skier levels.

Aspen Mountain is located in the heart of Aspen downtown, and is great for advanced skiers.

Snowmass is more for family and kids. Here you will find ski schools, along with wide mountains with blue and green trails.

Buttermilk is great for beginners and snowboarders. Every January Aspen hosts the Winter X Games at Buttermilk Mountain.

Aspen Highlands is less crowded, and perfect for experienced skiers.

All ski lifts open at 9 a.m. and stay open until around 3:30 p.m

Activities in Aspen:

Snowmobiling in Aspen:

The adventure begins through the streets filled with snow, surrounded by mountains, and quick stops to take photos, and to drink hot chocolate in a winter cabin. The last stop is at Maroon Bells, a 14,000 feet twin peak; one of the highlights of the trip.  For this tour we chose the company T-LAZY, there are other options for snowmobiling, not just the Maroon Bells tour.

Dog sledding:

This is a very fun activity.  Huskies love running and playing in the snow.  Dog sledding used to be a way of transportation in the Nordic countries, helping owners with transportation, food and supplies.

Shopping in Aspen:

The city is filled with boutiques, ski shops, famous brands and several different styles of stores, specially at downtown Aspen.

Hit the Spa:

Nothing better than having a massage after a long day of skiing, if you do not have time to go to a Spa, just relax in a hot tub.

Eat & Drink:

Brunch at Little Nell Hotel: This restaurant is located near Aspen Mountain and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also have a nice lounge bar.

Aspen Brewing Company: This place is perfect for those who love beer.  It is a brewpub with mountainside views. The beer tasting comes, on a ski board with several delicious flavors of beer.

Lynn Britt Cabin: This restaurant is located at the top of Snowmass Mountain. There is live music, elegant ambience and excellent gastronomy.

Venga Venga Cantina and Tequila Bar: This restaurant is located at the bottom of the Snowmass Mountain, they serve hot wine and play music all day long, making it a fun atmosphere.

Sake Sushi Restaurant: This is one of the best sushi restaurants in Aspen, with a large variety of fish and Asian food.

How to get around Aspen?

By taxi, or you can use the free bus system, which, go around the town from the top to the bottom.

We had a lot of fun in Aspen. It was the first time of our dog Arthur saw snow. We love skiing and Aspen is a great winter destination for the practice of this wonderful sport!
