Beijing is the capital of China. It is one of the oldest and most historic cities in the world. There are a lot to see such as, museums, temples and palaces.
We got in the country with the 72 hours Visa Free. We had enough time to see the most important sights of the city.
We stayed in a hotel near the Wangfujing Street, which is one of the most fun, and famous shopping streets of Beijing, you can find, very different kinds of food such as scorpions, octopus and grasshoppers. There is also Asian food, clothing and convenience stores.
Shopping in Beijing:
Check out the Silk Mall, there are all kind of affordable things, such as shoes, clothes, jewelry and restaurants.
Visiting the Forbidden City:
It is the largest architectural complex in China. Built between 1406 and 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 720,000 square meters. The title came about because only the emperor, and his family and special employees could enter the palace buildings. Anyone else who went through the gates without permission, was subject to execution.
The location was the imperial palace of China since the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, serving as the ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government. Only in the 1920s, it was turned into a museum.
Walking around the Tiennamen square:
Near to the Forbidden City, it is one of the largest and most famous squares in the world.
Visiting the Great Wall:
One of the 7 wonders of the modern world. There are several places to visit the walls. We went to the Mutianyu section – located 70km north of Beijing. This is one of the best, preserved parts of the wall, as it served to defend the capital and the royal tombs.
After buying the ticket to go to the wall. You can take a bus, which stop in the entrance of the complex.
To go up to see the wall, there are two options: go up with the cable car or on foot. To go down you can take the toboggan ride. It is safe as it has a lever that allows you to speed up and brake. It takes take about 20 minutes, because it is still very high.
Tips: Wear comfortable shoes and drink plenty of water. The climb is a bit tiring, and requires more oxygen.
There are several stores and restaurants around the Wall, selling souvenirs and Chinese food.
To get Mutyanu, you can hire a taxi driver, take a bus or go on a tour. The buses 916 or 936 leaving central station Dongzhimen, from there you can take a minibus to go to Mutianyu.
Temple of Heaven:
Here emperors used to make annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven to have good harvests. This temple was built in the Ming Dynasty and was the place where the emperor prayed to the heavens and made sacrifices at the winter solstice. It is located in a very nice park.
We had enough time, to visit all these places. It was a great experience visiting Beijing. We love Asia, and China is one of our favorite countries.
