Jamaica Travel Guide

Jamaica is known for rum, reggae music, beautiful beaches and resorts and a layed back lifestyle.

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean.

Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril and Kingston, are some of the most visited places in the country.   We decided to go to Ocho Rios, where there are more attractions and interesting things to do.

What to do and see in  Ocho Rios?

Visit the house were Bob Marley was born, located at Nine Mile, 2 hours from Ocho Rios.  To get there, you can go by private car, or on a tour with more people.  When we arrived, we spent the afternoon doing a tour of the house and museum.  The guide told stories about the life of Bob Marley, and we had a chance to see some of his record awards, and the room where he used to sleep. (reservation to visit is not required).

Climb Dunn’s River Falls:

Dunn’s River Falls is one of Jamaica’s most famous waterfalls.  The waterfalls are falling towards the sea from a height of 180 meters. The tour is in a group formed on the spot, by one guide and accompanied by another guide who takes pictures.  In the end you can buy the photos, but you can also take your own.  We brought with us, our Gopro, to take photos and videos.

Party on the beach: We listened to a lot of Jamaican music. Marijuana is legal in the country, so don’t be surprised if you smell something different in the air. We also went to Margaritaville, one of the liveliest bars in town.

Bamboo River Rafting: in a bamboo canoe by the Martha Brae River. The guide had lots of experience, and took us on an amazing tour.  Along the way we stopped to buy drinks and souvenirs.

Visiting Jamaica was a very remarkable experience.  We were lucky enough to catch beautiful sunny days. The beaches are beautiful and the people were very responsive. We really enjoyed the food, the music and getting to see a lots of exotic places.

Famous places in Jamaica:

Negril: A sought-after area for tourists.  Here you can find one of Jamaica’s longest and most crowded beaches: Seven Mile Beach, with 12 miles of white sand, crystal clear waters.  Also many people visit Rick’s Cafe, one of Jamaica’s most famous hot spots

The Blue Lagoon: A natural lagoon, situated roughly seven miles east of Port Antonio.  The site was originally called The Blue Hole.  However, following the success the movie, “The Blue Lagoon”, starring Brooke Shields, which was filmed here, the site was re-named “The Blue Lagoon”

Luminous Lagoon: At night, the lagoon sparkles and glistens when disturbed.  Microscopic organisms produce an eerie glow, reflecting the outlines of fish and other objects in the water. The Luminous Lagoon is said to be the largest and most brilliant of four in the world, a fact that continually attracts and awes visitors and scientists from around the world.

Tips: If you want to visit other cities, taxi can be a suggestion, but negotiate of the trip, before you start.
